Encounter D

Close parabolic encounter of equal-mass bulge/disk/halo galaxies. One disk is inclined by 109 degrees, the other by 180 degrees. The view shown is face-on to the orbit plane. Dark halos are shown in red, disks in blue, and bulges in yellow. The six frames show equally-spaced times between t = 0.75 and 2.625, with pericenter at t = 1; scaling the galaxies to the Milky Way, one time unit is about 250 Million years.
